Equality of Opportunity. Equality of Responsibility
The Indian Diaspora North America comprises men, women and children who, starting in 1838 with the "Indentured Workers" programme, migrated from India and other South Asian countries to the Americas to work and seek a better and more fulfilling life in a free and democratic society.
Descendants of our Cherished Ancestors,Trinidad, 1956
While the worldwide Indian Diaspora is estimated to number over 20 million persons living, working and bringing up their familes in almost every country in the world, the Indian Diaspora population in North America is estimated to number about 3.4 million persons. In Canada, the Indian Diaspora numbers some 800 thousand persons with over 70% living in Vancouver and Toronto followed by smaller concentrations in Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Ottawa, Montreal and Halifax.
Curiously, the Indian Diaspora in the Americas all started from the coming of emancipation in 1834 and a chance exchange of business letters between two British plantation owners way back in 1836!

O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
Ô Canada!
Terre de nos aïeux,
Ton front est ceint de fleurons glorieux!
Car ton bras sait porter l’épée,
Il sait porter la croix!
Ton histoire est une épopée
Des plus brillants exploits.
Et ta valeur, de foi trempée,
Protégera nos foyers et nos droits.
Protégera nos foyers et nos droits.
